Autism Acceptance Night

Sensory Impact Details

This Firebirds hockey game will provide a lower sensory experience with reduced noise and lighting where possible to create a welcoming environment for all guests with sensory sensitivities.

Sensory Modifications:

  • No Cyro / Pyro
  • No LED, no flashing or strobe lights 
  • Standard goal horn adjusted to a quieter goal horn
  • Lower music volume throughout the night
  • Certain simulating game elements removed (no noise meter, no hype videos on the scoreboard)
  • Fuego, our mascot, will refrain from beating on a drum when possible

Remaining Sensory Impacts to Anticipate:

  • When to expect louder noises, horns, and lights:
    • Loud Music during Player Warmups:
      • Music will play at the normal loud volume during player warmups to help the players get in the zone for the game!
      • 16:00 to 0:00 on the clock pre-game
        • Off Ice Official Horns:
        • 2 minutes left on the clock during player warmups
        • 1 minute left on the clock during player warmups
        • Before every TV Timeout (on the 14, 10, and 6 minute-mark of each period)
        • 5 minutes left of each Intermission clock
        • 2 minutes left of each Intermission clock
      • Light Changes:
        • During the Pre-game Videos and Player Introductions, arena lighting will reduce to 50%
        • Arena lighting will remain at 100% for the rest of the game
  • Smells:
    • Various restaurants and food stands are open throughout our Outdoor Patio, Main Concourse, and Silvercrest levels. Please expect to smell different food and beverage smells throughout the arena.

Sensory Kits or individual items can be checked out complimentary at the Guest Services Desk near section 105. Items include various fidget toys for sensory-seeking guests, as well as noise-cancelling headphones and sunglasses (both adult and child sizes) for sensory-sensitive guests. Feelings Flash Cards are also available for guests that are nonverbal or have difficulty expressing their emotions. For this Firebirds Game, there will be a designated low sensory impact area for guests that need a space away from the crowds and stimulating environment. To inquire about gaining access to this area, please stop by the Guest Services Desk near Section 105.

During this game, we are introducing Identification Card Lanyards for guests who would like to identify as autistic, neurodivergent, or sensory sensitive. These lanyards will allow our staff to visually recognize your needs and offer appropriate support throughout any event you attend at Acrisure Arena. Identification Card Lanyards can be found at the Guest Services Desk near Section 105.
